Expanding Energy Access

West Virginia is rich in natural gas, but only one pipeline feeds Morgantown.

Hope Gas will meet the increased demand for natural gas in the area with the construction of the Morgantown Connector project. This 30-mile natural gas pipeline, approved by the West Virginia Public Service Commission in January 2024, will boost jobs and, by extending natural gas infrastructure and availability, increase the area’s economic development opportunities.

Designed to enhance natural gas supply, especially during peak demand days, the project involves a new 16-inch diameter pipeline and improvements to 5.6 miles of existing pipe to handle increased pressure.

The first midstream pipeline project in Hope Gas history, it will start in western Monongalia County near Wadestown and head East about 25 miles to the western edge of the Morgantown area. From there it will connect with other proposed Hope Gas facilities west of Interstate 79 and Harmony Grove, approximately 5.5 miles into northern Marion County.

Anticipated to create 600 construction jobs, the $177 million pipeline should be ready for the 2025 winter season. Restoration and cleanup will continue into 2026.

Nitro-based Apex is the contractor for the 10-mile spread leading into Morgantown, and  Charleston-based Ace Pipeline is the contractor for the two other 10-mile spreads.

Mason County Pipeline Project

West Virginia is rich in natural gas, and new infrastructure is essential to ensure that communities and businesses can access that resource when they need it most. Hope Gas will support growing energy demand and economic development in western West Virginia with the construction of a new pipeline project in Mason County. The $250 million investment will strengthen natural gas delivery for the region and expand opportunities for residential, commercial and industrial growth.

The project includes the construction of approximately 30 miles of new 24-inch diameter natural gas pipeline designed to increase system capacity and reliability. By expanding Hope’s delivery network, the pipeline will help ensure reliable natural gas service for families and businesses while positioning the region to support future development projects.

Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2026, with the project expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Once finished, the pipeline will play an important role in supporting economic development initiatives across Mason County and surrounding communities.

The project is anticipated to create about 600 construction jobs, providing a significant boost to the local economy during the buildout phase. Local leaders say the investment will deliver long-term benefits for the county and its residents.

“This project will be transformative for the county,” said Jim Rossi, chairman of the Mason County Development Authority. “It delivers the kind of core infrastructure we need to attract investment, support new housing, and help local businesses grow. This investment by Hope Gas represents a long-term commitment to Mason County’s success.”

Once complete, the Mason County pipeline will help ensure West Virginia residents and businesses continue to have access to safe, reliable and affordable natural gas while creating a strong foundation for future economic growth across the region.
