Why Cybersecurity Matters

Your online Hope Gas account contains personal and financial payment information that needs protection. Scammers use phishing emails, fake websites, and smishing (text scams) to steal logins, collect bogus payments, or install malware. A compromised account can lead to identity theft or financial loss, but good cyber habits will protect you.

Phishing: How To Protect Yourself

Phishing tricks you into giving info or clicking bad links via email, text (smishing), or social media. Watch for:

  • Urgency/Threats: "Account suspended," "Immediate action required."
  • Info Requests: Unsolicited requests for passwords, SSNs, bank details.
  • Generic Greetings: "Dear Valued Customer."
  • Poor Quality: Spelling/grammar errors, bad logos.
  • Suspicious Senders/Links: Check email addresses carefully. Hover over links before clicking to see the real destination URL.
  • Unexpected Attachments/Downloads/QR Codes: These can contain malware or lead to fake sites.

What To Do:

  • Do NOT Click, Open, Scan, or Reply. Instead, verify with us. The best way to confirm legitimacy is to contact Hope Gas directly. Email our cybersecurity team at cybersecurity@hopegas.com. Do not use the contact information provided in the suspicious communication.
  • Don’t Engage: If it's a call, hang up. If it's an email or text, delete it without clicking any links or opening attachments.

General Cybersecurity Best Practices

  • Keep Software Updated: Install updates for your OS, browser, and security software promptly.
  • Secure Your Wi-Fi: Use strong passwords on home/business Wi-Fi. Avoid accessing sensitive accounts on public Wi-Fi.
  • Be Mindful Online: Be cautious sharing personal details scammers could use.
  • Use Official Channels: Access your account by typing HopeGas.com directly into your browser’s address bar. Beware of search engine links leading to fake sites. Ensure the website address starts with "https://".
