Natural Gas and Emissions
Cleaner Burning:
Natural gas burns cleaner than other fossil fuels, producing significantly fewer air pollutants.
Lower Emissions:
Did you know? For every residential customer who converts to natural gas, the environmental impact is the equivalent of planting 35 trees! Every customer who converts from propane to natural gas reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

Expanding Access to Natural Gas:
Hope Gas plans to expand service so more West Virginians can take advantage of our homegrown, reliable, affordable, environmentally responsible energy source.
- By expanding our services to currently underserved/unserved communities within our territory, we will not only be creating value for those families and businesses who today don’t have access to the reasonably priced and plentiful natural gas beneath our feet in West Virginia, but we will also be creating more economic development opportunities within our state.
- The result will be more accretive sites for new companies with plans to invest in manufacturing, critical supply chains, and energy-intensive businesses by providing these companies with access to our rich and plentiful natural gas, which allows them to operate more efficiently.
- Investing in Technology: Looking ahead, we are working to pioneer even lower-emission products and technologies. This includes exploring advanced systems like Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and fuel cells (like the WATT HOME system) that reduce emissions while keeping the power on when the grid goes down.
Exploring Hydrogen:
We are also researching hydrogen made from natural gas or even methane recycled from landfills as a future fuel source to further reduce or eliminate emissions, positioning West Virginia at the forefront of the clean energy economy.
