Protect Yourself: Avoiding Utility Scams

Scammers frequently target both residential and business utility customers via phone, text, and email or in person, trying to steal money or personal information. Be aware of their tactics.

At Hope Gas, your safety goes beyond natural gas. Our cybersecurity team is committed to protecting you from scams, fraud, and cyber threats by using industry best practices.

Scammers often try to impersonate Hope Gas representatives to trick you into providing personal information or making fraudulent payments.

If you see Hope Gas representatives working in your neighborhood, they will always carry a photo identification badge with the company logo on it. If you have doubts, please ask to see the employee’s badge.

Likewise, if you are contacted by someone who claims to be from Hope Gas and who asks for your account number or any other personal information, do not give it to him or her. We do not call customers, send email messages, or come to your homes to get information about your accounts. We keep your personal, financial, and other information confidential. Here’s how you can stay informed and secure:

Common Scams To Watch Out For:

Scammers often try to impersonate Hope Gas to trick you into providing personal information or making fraudulent payments. Stay vigilant for these common tactics:

  • Imposter Calls or Emails: Be suspicious of callers or emails claiming to be from Hope Gas who demand immediate payment, threaten service disconnection, or pressure you into providing personal or financial information.
  • Fake Bill Notices: Watch out for fraudulent messages that look like billing statements but contain suspicious links to unsafe websites or ask for unusual payment methods.
  • Door-to-Door Scams: Individuals claiming to be with Hope Gas should always have official company identification and wear a Hope Gas uniform. If you're unsure, do not let them into your home and contact us directly.
  • Unusual Payment Demands: Hope Gas will NEVER demand payment via prepaid cards, gift cards, or cryptocurrencies. These are red flags for fraud.
  • Phishing Attempts: Be aware of suspicious calls or voice messages where scammers pretend to be an employee to trick you into giving them private information. If you want to make sure you aren’t charged for a transaction you did not make, call the number on Hope Gas’s legitimate website or reach out to the Hope Gas cyber team for assistance.
