September is National Firefighter Appreciation Month, and Hope Utilities is proud to recognize 15 employees across our gas companies who serve their communities twice over: through their work in the natural gas industry and through their volunteer service with local fire departments.
These employees represent 321 combined years of volunteer firefighting experience and 130.5 years of service with Hope Utilities gas companies. Their commitment reflects the values that guide our company, including faith, family and integrity.
For many of the employees being recognized, the call to volunteer began with family. Some followed in the footsteps of fathers who served in their local fire departments. Others grew up spending time at the fire house, surrounded by the spirit of service. Some became involved because their own children joined as junior volunteers. Across their stories, family is the common thread that helped inspire a commitment to helping neighbors in moments when help is needed most.
Their roles with Hope Utilities also strengthen the work they do as first responders. Many employees shared that the training, safety knowledge and field experience they gain through their gas utility work help them understand what to look for and what to do when responding to a natural gas emergency. That experience supports safer outcomes for customers, communities and fellow emergency responders.
In a note to the employee volunteers, Hope Utilities leaders expressed sincere gratitude for the courage, commitment and selflessness they demonstrate both on the job and beyond it. The note recognizes that volunteer firefighting requires dedication, training, teamwork and sacrifice, and that their willingness to answer the call reflects the very best of Hope Gas and the communities the company is proud to support.
Throughout September, Hope Utilities will highlight these employees on social media through Firefighter Friday, featuring their stories and recognizing charitable donations made to volunteer fire departments in the company’s service territories.
Hope Utilities is grateful to these employees for wearing two hats in service to one community and for demonstrating what it means to serve with purpose, courage and integrity.
